GAME NOTES

  • Montevallo converted 3-of-6 extra-man opportunities and freshman goalkeeper Kyle Little was credited with 17 saves as the Falcons clinched the first win in program history.
  • Sophomore Kyle Enkelmann scored a game-high five goals in his first action with the Falcons.
  • Freshman Kyle Nichols contributed four goals and a team-high two assists in the win.
  • Freshman Thomas Vaesen finished with two goals and one assist in the victory.
  • Freshman J.D. Cooper also contributed two goals on two shots for the Falcons.
  • Freshman Alex Dozzi added one goal and one assist to round out the scoring for Montevallo.
  • Little registered 16 saves in the contest after minding the net for all 60 minutes of the match.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After Newberry's Stone Boone scored the first goal in the contest less than two minutes into the match, freshman Kyle Nichols scored the first goal in program history for the Falcons with 11:55 remaining in the first period.
  • Sophomore Kyle Enkelmann added two goals in the opening period, including the final goal in the period with 48 seconds remaining to tie the match at 4-4.
  • Montevallo outscored Newberry 4-3 in the second period as Nichols and Eklemann contributed one goal each along with freshmen J.D. Cooper and Thomas Vaesen as the Falcons carried a 8-7 lead into the break.
  • The Falcons pulled away in the third period after scoring the first three goals in the second half, including back-to-back goals by Nichols, which helped Montevallo take a 11-8 lead into the fourth period.
  • Enkelmann added two more goals in the fourth period and Cooper contributed the final goal for Montevallo as the Falcons secured the 14-11 victory.
