Falcons sweep Tuskegee in Doubleheader

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS

  •    Eight different players for Montevallo recorded a hit in today's game.
  •    Montevallo had four different players record multiple hits in the game.
  •    Darbi Duke was 3-for-3 in the game and scored two runs and had two RBI. Duke also had six stolen bases.
  •    Carlee Mullinax led the team with four RBI in the game going 2-for-4 at the plate.
  •    The Falcons' pitching staff only allowed five hits and struck out five batters. Amanda Ingram (1-0) recorded her first win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  •  Darbi Duke singled in the top of the first inning. Duke then stole second and third base before scoring on an fielding error by the shortstop. Carlee Mullinax singled to center field, scoring Brianna Stella. Lauryn Garcia drew a bases loaded walk to score Mullinax and extend the lead to 3-0.
  •  In the top of the second inning Duke walked and stole second before scoring on a single down the left field line by Celestia Davila to extend the lead 4-0.
  •  In the bottom of the third inning Tuskegee plated four runs to cut the lead to 6-4.
  •  Montevallo answered in the top of the fourth, scoring one run when Barnette scored from third on a groundout to the shortstop by Mullinax. 
  •  The Falcons plated five runs in the top of the fifth to win the game 12-4 on a two RBI single to center field by Mullinax.

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS

  •   Eleven different players for Montevallo recorded a hit in game two.
  •   Montevallo had eight different players record multiple hits, including four with three hits in the game.
  •   Haley Barnette went 3-for-5 at the plate with two home runs     and six RBI.
  •   Saralyn Campbell was 2-for-2 today with five RBI.
  •   The Falcons' pitching staff struck out six batters and allowed seven hits. Jessica Boyd (4-2) recorded her fourth win of the season in two innings pitched with no earned runs, two hits, and two strikeouts. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  •  The Falcons were off to a hot start, plating five runs in the top of the first. Haley Barnette homered to left field, scoring Dylan Bailey to give Montevallo the 4-0 lead. Kirbi Tuck singled, scoring Mariel Bertossi to extend the lead to 5-0. 
  •  Tuskegee answered scoring one run in the bottom of the first.
  •  Montevallo responded in the top of the second inning with three runs in the frame. Marisa Sosa singled to left field, scoring Barnette and Bertossi to extend the lead to 8-1.
  •  Duke then scored on a groundout to the shortstop by Barnette to give Montevallo a nine run lead in the third. 
  •  The Falcons' bats came alive in the fourth, plating 10 runs in the inning. Barnette hit a 3-run homer to give Montevallo an 18-1 lead. Saralyn Campbell doubled to right field, scoring Alexis Cortez and Holly LaForce to extend the lead to 20-1.
  • Montevallo added two more runs in the fifth when Campbell singled to center field, scoring Sosa and LaForce.
  • In their final at-bat Tuskegee managed to plate five runs. 

UP NEXT

The Falcons take on West Georgia in a weekend series that will start Friday, March 23.  The first pitch of Friday's matchup will begin at 3 p.m.
