MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team defeated nationally ranked West Georgia Wolves in a three-game series 2-1 after splitting a doubleheader on the final day of the series.
West Georgia entered the game ranked #17 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division 2 Poll.
Montevallo defeated the Wolves in game one of the series before splitting the doubleheader on day two.
Caleb Ledbetter had an outstanding performance in the series and went 10-of-13 from the plate and had three RBI.
Alex Pondick shined in his outing for the Falcons and threw a complete game in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Pondick allowed seven hits but also struck out five batters in a shutout victory.

Game 1
MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS
- Chad Wagner went 3-of-3 with a solo home run and scored twice for the Falcons.
- Seven Falcons recorded hits in today's game with Wagner being the only one to record multiple hits in the game.
- Steven Skolarz Jr. (3-3) started on the mound for the Falcons and threw 6 1/3 innings. Skolarz allowed six hits and five runs in his outing and also struck out six batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the bottom of the first inning, West Georgia scored three runs to take an early 3-0 lead over the Falcons.
- Montevallo got on the board in the top of the second frame on a solo home run from Chad Wagner that made it a 3-1 ball game.
- Sebastian Samuels made it a one-run game in the top of the fifth inning on a solo home run into left-center field.
- West Georgia pushed their lead back to two runs in the bottom of the fifth frame on a solo home run that made it 4-2.
- The Wolves broke the game open in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored four runs to go up 8-2.
- Khari Anderson tripled in the top of the ninth inning to score Wagner and score the final run of the game for the Falcons.
Game 2
MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS
- Caleb Ledbetter was 4-of-4 in the game and drove in an RBI and was plated twice for the Falcons.
- Ryan Brooks and Mark Castellucci both drove in three runs in the Falcons' victory. Brooks was 2-of-4 from the dish and Castellucci went 3-of-4.
- Alex Pondick (3-0) got the start for the Falcons and threw a complete game. Pondick allowed seven hits and struck out five batters in his second shutout this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Montevallo got off to a hot start in the second game of the doubleheader and jumped out to an insurmountable 9-0 lead in the opening frame. The big plays for the Falcons came from Sebastian Samuels and Ryan Brooks who both had two RBI doubles. Jason Cryar had a two-RBI triple in the frame to help fuel the run filled inning for the Falcons.
- In the sixth inning, Montevallo scored four more runs that came off the bats of Brooks, Mark Castellucci, and Jake Morris.
