MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS
  • Senior Khari Anderson finished 2-for-2 at the plate and blasted the first home run of his collegiate career while driving in one run and scoring two runs in the victory.
  • Junior Tyler Krabbe went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and drove in three runs.
  • Senior Mark Castellucci finished 1-for-3 at the plate with his third homer this season while driving in two runs and scoring one run.
  • Seniors Collin Dupree and Chad Wagner and sophomore Ryan Brooks each recorded a double, with Wagner driving in one run and scoring one run and Dupree and Brooks scoring one run each.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • Mississippi College, which entered the game ranked No. 21 nationally in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) NCAA Division II poll, scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
  • The Falcons, who are receiving votes in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II national poll, plated three runs in the top of the third inning on a RBI sacrifice fly by senior Chad Wagner and a two-run double down the left-field line by junior Tyler Krabbe to take a 3-2 lead.
  • Montevallo extended its lead to 5-2 on back-to-back solo home runs by seniors Mark Castellucci and Khari Anderson in the top of the fourth inning.
  • Krabbe lined a RBI single into left field in the top of the fifth inning to push the Falcons' lead to 6-2.
  • The Choctaws scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to trim the deficit to 6-4.
  • Montevallo pushed its lead to 8-4 in the top of the sixth inning when junior Jason Cryar drove in a run with a RBI sacrifice fly and Anderson scored on a fielding error by Mississippi College.
  • The Choctaws trimmed the deficit to 8-6 after plating two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
  • Mississippi College scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning and threatened to tie the game before senior Kale Latorre pitched his way out of trouble to strand runners at second base and third base.

  • The Falcons plated three runs in the top of the first inning on a RBI single by senior Chad Wagner and a RBI double by junior Tyler Krabbe before Wagner scored on a bases-loaded walk to take a 3-0 lead.
  • Mississippi College scored a run in the bottom half of the first inning to trim the deficit to 3-1.
  • The Choctaws took the lead for good after plating three runs in the bottom of the second inning, which gave Mississippi College its 4-3 lead.
  • Mississippi College shut the door on the Falcons after retiring the final 13 batters in order down the stretch.
