Falcons Fall to Hawks 16-8 in Non-Conference Play

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The University of Montevallo men's lacrosse team was defeated by the Chowan University Hawks 16-8 in a road contest and their second game in four days.
 
Thomas Vaesen led the way for the Falcons with four goals in the game.  Vaesen recorded his fifth hat trick of the season and had five shots on goal.  This was the fifth consecutive game that Vaesen has recorded at least a hat trick for the Falcons.
 
Ryan Shae and Blake Lowenberg each recorded two goals for the Falcons.
 
Montevallo is now 6-4 on the season and will resume GLVC conference play this weekend when they travel to take on the University of Indianapolis.  The match with the Greyhounds will take place on March 31st with faceoff set for 1:00 p.m.

KEY GOALS

 1st, 12:17| The first goal scored in the game came from Chowan's Alex Clabaugh who gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead over the Falcons.
 
1st, 10:48| Ryan Shea scored the first goal of the game for the Falcons off an assist from Jackson McKeague to tie the game at 1-1.
 
1st, 1:37| Thomas Vaesen put an end to a Hawks three-goal run on an unassisted goal that made it a 4-2 game in favor of the Hawks.
 
2nd, 4:33| Thomas Vaesen scored the Falcons' third goal of the game on an assist from Alex Dozzi that stopped four straight goals by the Hawks as the Falcons trailed Chowan 8-3.
 
2nd, 2:56| Blake Lowenberg pulled the Falcons to within four goals of the lead on an unassisted goal that made it an 8-4 game.
 
3rd, 7:55| Thomas Vaesen scored an unassisted goal while up a man to make it 10-5.
 
3rd, 5:02| Thomas Vaesen scored his second goal of the third period and made it 10-6.
 
3rd, 00:15| Blake Lowenberg connected off a Kyle Nichols assist to pull the Falcons to within three goals of the lead (10-7)

GAME NOTES
  • Chowan outshot the Falcons 41-25 in the game and held Montevallo to a game low four shots in the fourth period of the game.
  • Montevallo had 17 shots on goal in the game compared to 32 by the Hawks.
  • Kyle Little recorded 16 saves in the game as he fought off a daunting Chowan attack.
  • Chowan held the edge in ground balls 44-34 over Montevallo.
