Falcons clinch series with 5-4 win over West Florida

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS

Senior Darbi Duke went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in two runs offensively and then threw out two runners at home consecutively to end the game and clinch the win for the Falcons.

Sophomore Haley Barnette finished 2-for-2 at the plate and drove in one run.

Freshman Lauryn Garcia went 1-for-1 at the plate while driving in one run and scoring one run.

Senior Kelsey Vining finished 1-for-4 at the plate and scored one run.

Sophomore Brianna Stella went 1-for-4 at the plate and scored one run.

Junior Lady Sarah Federico finished 1-for-1 at the plate and scored one run.

Sophomore Holly LaForce went 1-for-2 at the plate and scored one run.

Junior Amanda Ingram started in the circle and pitched one scoreless frame.

Junior Alexis Bonanno (11-8) picked up her second consecutive win in the circle in a relief appearance.

Junior Abbey Pratt earned her fifth save of the season after pitching a scoreless frame to close out the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Montevallo took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when sophomore Brianna Stella reached on an infield single and scored on an error by the Argonauts.

West Florida tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second inning.

The Argonauts took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning.

The Falcons tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning when senior Kelsey Vining reached on a single up the middle and scored on a RBI single by sophomore Haley Barnette.

West Florida plated one run in the top of the fifth inning and one run in the top of the sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead.

The Falcons scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning following a RBI single by freshman Lauryn Garcia and a two-run single up the middle by senior Darbi Duke.

Duke then threw out a pair of runners at home from her spot in left field on back-to-back plays in the top of the seventh inning to clinch the victory.

UP NEXT

Montevallo will travel to West Alabama to face the Tigers in the final Gulf South Conference series of the regular season next weekend.
