Montevallo athletics revamping newly renamed Georgine Lemak Soccer Field

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo Athletics Department is pleased to announce the naming of Georgine Lemak Soccer Field.

The relationship between the athletic department and the Lemak family dates back nearly two decades and will continue into the future with the naming of the complex previously known as Varsity Field.

"We are grateful to the Lemak family and their care team for their investment in the lives of our students," said University of Montevallo President John W. Stewart III. "In an increasingly competitive environment, this kind of philanthropic support is essential to our institution's ability to provide a top-notch education and student experience. We appreciate very much the Lemaks' thoughtfulness and generosity."

The Montevallo men's and women's soccer teams will compete in a revamped facility this fall following several renovation projects, which were made possible due to a generous gift from the Lemak family.

The playing surface was recently laser graded, which allowed for the installation of a new irrigation system and Bermuda grass playing surface.

Georgine Lemak Soccer Field has also received multiple improvements to the scoreboard and overall visual branding of the complex. A new scoreboard, supported by brick columns, resides at the northwest corner of the field. A beautiful brick and wrought-iron fence running parallel to Campus Drive has improved the facing of the complex, and new windscreens highlighting the programs' accomplishments have improved the end lines. New sideline benches have also been installed.

The Montevallo men's and women's soccer programs are approaching their 25th anniversary seasons at Varsity Field, with the men starting their 25th campaign in the fall of 2019 and the women celebrating their 25th season in 2020.
