Falcons Extend Win Streak to 11 with 3-1 Victory Over Shorter

GAME NOTES
  • Brie Blume recorded a double-double in tonight's match with 14 kills and 15 digs.
  • Brioni Dixon and Hannah Fernandez both registered nine kills in the match.
  • Fernandez led the team at the net and had a match-high seven blocks.
  • Evelina Teran finished tonight's match with five blocks at the net.
  • Savannah Roys was the team leader tonight in assists and recorded 25 in the match.
  • Michaela Henderson led the team with 25 total digs in the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1
  • The Falcons opened the set with a run to take an early 4-0 lead.  Shorter used a 7-2 run to their advantage and took their first lead of the set, 7-6.  After exchanging points, neither team gained an advantage until Montevallo used a three-point run to take a 23-21 lead late in the set.  The Falcons and the Hawks exchanged points at the end as Montevallo held on for the 25-23 victory.
 Set 2
  • Montevallo and Shorter exchanged points early in the set but the turning point came when the Falcons went on an 8-0 run and made it 11-5 in favor of Montevallo.  The Hawks cut into the Falcons lead but were never able to get closer than three points.  Montevallo closed out the set with five straight points to win 25-15.
Set 3
  • Shorter controlled the tempo for the majority of the set.  After trading points, the Falcons were able to tie the game at 12-12 but Shorter reeled off nine straight points to take a 20-12 lead in the set.  Montevallo made it interesting with an 8-1 run of their own to trail Shorter 23-22.  The Hawks put down two straight to win 25-22.
Set 4
  • Montevallo controlled the final set from the start.  With the set tied at 3-3, Montevallo took advantage of the serving from Hannah Fernandez and put down five straight points to lead 8-3.  Shorter tried to make it interesting and trailed 22-19 late in the set before the Falcons closed out the set with three straight points to win 25-19.
UP NEXT
The Falcons will play Lee to finish out the weekend with a match at home on Saturday, September 22.  The match is scheduled for a 2:00 pm start.
