Falcons Down Chargers 3-2 in Conference Play

GAME NOTES
  • Amanda Nugent led the Falcons' offensive attack with 25 kills and was one of three Falcons players to total double-digit kills.  Evelina Teran put down 10 kills while Brioni Dixon totaled 11 kills in the match.
  • The Falcons totaled eight service aces in the set with two players recording three aces each.  Brie Blume and Michaela Henderson each had three aces in the Falcons' win.
  • Montevallo had three players register five blocks in the match.  Brioni Dixon, Hannah Fernandez, and Amanda Nugent all led the team with five blocks.
  • Savannah Roys led the team in assists with 30.
  • Micaheala Henderson had the most digs in the match with 26.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1
  • Alabama-Huntsville opened the game on a 4-1 run to take an early lead on the Falcons.  Montevallo responded with a run of their own a few points later to take the lead at 8-7.  Montevallo never gave up the lead despite Alabama-Huntsville's attempt to make a run late in the set.  The Falcons were able to hold on for a 25-22 victory.
 Set 2
  • The Chargers took a commanding 5-1 lead in the set before the Falcons responded with a run of their own to tie the game at 6-6.  Midway through the set and trailing 10-7, the Falcons put together a 14-1 run to retake the lead and gain a 10-point advantage (21-11) off the serving of Michaela Henderson.  The Chargers again tried to claw their way back, but the Falcons held off Alabama-Huntsville to win 25-18.
Set 3
  • The set was a back and forth affair and neither team held an advantage over the other until late in the set when Alabama-Huntsville took a 20-17 lead.  Montevallo went on a 5-0 run to take a 22-20 lead but the Chargers responded with a run of their own to close out the game.  Alabama-Huntsville went on a 5-1 run late in the set to win 25-23.
Set 4
  • Montevallo took an early 8-5 lead after scoring six straight points early in the set.  The Chargers responded with a 6-1 run to take an 11-9 lead.  Both teams exchanged points for most of the set.  Montevallo was facing match point at 24-22 but was unable to hold off the Chargers who closed out the game with four straight points to win 26-24.
Set 5
  • Montevallo and Alabama-Huntsville exchanged points until it was tied at 8-8.  That is when the Falcons reeled off five straight points to take a 13-8 lead.  The Falcons closed out the set and held on for a 15-11 victory.
