MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team got back on the winning track in Gulf South Conference play on Tuesday night, taking a season sweep from the Lee University Lady Flames.
The Falcons (12-11, 5-3 GSC) set the tone early with wins of 25-16 and 25-14 in the first two sets before Montevallo had to hold off Lee (9-13, 2-6 GSC) in the third 25-23 to complete the sweep of the match and the season series.
Montevallo moved to within 1.5 games of a three way tie for second in the GSC, while the loss for Lee leaves the Lady Flames a half-game behind a tie for the final spot in the GSC tournament with eight matches remaining in the season.
The match was part of Montevallo's "Falcons Fighting Cancer" initiative and included a pre-match cook out and silent auction.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
- Montevallo opened set one on a 10-4 run to take control early, and a subsequent 10-3 UM run gave the Falcons a 21-10 lead
- Montevallo weathered a late charge from Lee to win 25-16 in the first.
Set 2
- Lee kept set two close early, but with the Falcons leading 9-7, UM ripped off a 7-1 run to take control.
- Lee got no closer than six points in the remainder of the set, as Montevallo took the stanza 25-14.
SET 3
- The third frame was the most evenly contested of the night. Montevallo led early, but a 5-0 Lee run gave the Lady Flames an 18-17 lead late in the set.
- The Falcons rallied to take the lead back at 21-20, and they closed the match on a 4-1 run to take the set 25-23 to complete the sweep.
