MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team ran its win streak to three matches on Friday night, sweeping the University of West Alabama Tigers, 3-0, to avenge an earlier season loss.
The Falcons (13-11, 6-3 GSC) took control early and set the tone with their defense, holding UWA (7-17, 1-7 GSC) to an attack percentage of .059 for the match as en route to the three-set win: 25-14, 25-20, 25-18.
Montevallo's win propels them to within one game of Union University (Tenn.) in the GSC standings for the fourth spot - and the final bye - in the GSC Championship to be played in November.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
- Montevallo opened set one on a 9-4 run to take control early, and a subsequent 5-1 UM run gave the Falcons a 14-9 lead.
- Montevallo closed out the first set in dominant fashion, taking 10 of the final 12 points as Montevallo won the set 25-14.
Set 2
- UM opened the second frame with an 8-2 run, but UWA answered with a 7-1 run to tie the score at 9-9 and the set remained close until late in the stanza.
- With the score tied at 18, Montevallo ran off another 7-2 run to take the stanza 25-20 and grab a 2-0 lead in the match.
SET 3
- UWA took slim leads early in the third stanza on several occasions, but midway through the set, UM took control with a 6-1 run.
- Later runs of 5-1 and 6-1 for the Falcons helped Montevallo put the game away with a 25-18 win to complete the sweep.
