DAY 1 - RESULTS (PDF)
SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of Montevallo made its collegiate swimming debut Friday, Oct. 25, splashing into the pool at the 19th annual Sewanee Invitational with third-place standings for both the men and women on Day 1 of the two-day event.
"Today was a great first step for the future of the program. We're going to keep on building from here," said UM head coach
Aaron Mahaney. "I was really impressed and proud of the team. Being the first meet ever, and especially the first meet of the season, I was a little less concerned about timing and more about how they were approaching everything. They were up cheering and getting up and racing."
RECORD-SETTING DAY
Each team set five individual school records during the day. Josha Sauer and
Molly Hansen each claimed two records.
RELAYS
The meet featured two 100-yard relays, which are not typical college events, setting up early team building skills.
COUNTING POINTS
- The Falcons are nine points out of second place in the men's standings with 221 points behind Sewanee's 230 points. Emmanual leads the meet with 423 points.
- Montevallo's women scored 212 points as a team, sitting in third place behind Emmanual (466) and Sewanee (378).
- Twelve men scored points for UM on its first of competition. Kyle Smithers and Joshua Sauer scored 26 and 22 points, respectively, to lead the team.
- Molly Hansen leads the women's team with 32 points in the meet, while Amanda Ware scored 24 points.
