UM Volleyball Wins Fourth-Straight

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team extended its win streak to four in a row on Saturday, Oct. 26 as it closed out a three-match home stand with a third consecutive sweep.
The Falcons (14-11, 7-3 GSC) ousted the Mississippi College Choctaws (7-18, 2-7 GSC) in straight sets, 25-14, 25-17, 25-19. The Falcons have now won 11 consecutive sets, dating back to a five-set victory over Nova Southeastern on Oct. 19.
Montevallo's win helps it keep the pressure on the top four seeds in the GSC, as the Falcons position themselves to try and move up the standings in the final six matches of the regular season.

GAME NOTES
  HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1
  • Montevallo built a modest lead early in the first set, but in the middle stages of the frame, the Falcons took control with an 8-1 run to take a 17-10 lead. 
  • The Falcons immediately followed that 8-1 run with an 8-3 spurt to close the set as UM took the opening frame 25-14.
Set 2
  • A 6-1 run midway through the second set helped UM take a 17-8 lead but MC was able to close the gap to 20-15 by taking seven of the next 10 points.
  • Montevallo, though, finished off the Choctaws in the frame, ending the set on a 5-2 run to take the set 25-17.
SET 3
  • Montevallo took command early in the third frame, taking 13 of the first 18 points to open an eight point lead early. 
  • The Falcons' lead reached as many as 11 points in the set, and the gap was never closer than four points, as UM took the set 25-19 to complete the 3-0 sweep.
