MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team defeated the Shorter University Hawks 3-0 in the Falcons' third Gulf South Conference win of the season.
Montevallo one all three sets by three points or less. The Falcons topped Shorter 25-22 in the first set, 25-23 in the second set, and 26-24 in the third set.
The Falcons improved to 9-7 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Shorter fell to 6-9 overall and 0-3 in the GSC.

Set 1
- Shorter controlled the first set early after jumping out to a 5-1 lead.
- Montevallo cut the deficit to 9-8 following a kill by Desiree Rodriguez.
- The Hawks jumped out to a 16-9 lead following six straight points.
- Montevallo tied Shorter 20-20 in the first set following a service ace by Liz Tisch.
- The Falcons scored four straight points down the stretch of the first set to win 25-22.
Set 2
- After trading points early in the first set, Shorter took a 6-4 lead over the Falcons.
- Montevallo took the lead 14-13 over the Hawks following a kill by Rodriguez.
- Montevallo led 20-18 over the Hawks following a service ace by Hannah Fernandez, after Shorter tied the game 18-18.
- The Falcons would hold the lead the rest of the way, defeating the Hawks 25-23.
SET 3
- Shorter controlled the third set early, leading the Falcons 11-8 early in the third set.
- Montevallo took the lead 15-14 over Shorter following a service ace from Evelina Teran.
- The Falcons extended their lead 22-19 over the Hawks after a ball-handling error by the Hawks.
- Shorter regained the lead late in the set 24-23 over Montevallo following a service ace.
- With the set tied 24-24, the Falcons scored three straight points to win 26-24, capped with a kill from Evelina Teran.
Montevallo swept the Hawks 3-0 on the road.
