CLEVELAND, Miss. – The University of Montevallo broke its program record for Gulf South Conference victories Friday, defeating Delta State University, 2-0, to improve to 8-1-1 in the GSC.
After a scoreless first half, Montevallo's
Espy Sanchez and
Kira Bochard netted a pair of goals in less than a minute early in the second half.
Judith Perez-Bayon collected the shutout in goal.
The win, coupled with a Lee University win over West Alabama, moves Montevallo into second place in the GSC standings with three games to play in the regular season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
50' | Espy Sanchez gave UM a 1-0 lead by scoring her third goal of the season. The eventual game-winning goal is her second of the season.

- Montevallo has won five straight games and is 6-0-1 in its last seven games, all in Gulf South Conference play.

- The Falcons' eight conference wins is a program record for most conference wins in Montevallo's NCAA Division II history. The previous record was seven wins.
- Delta State had more total shots, 9-8, than Montevallo, but the Falcons led the game for shots on goal, 5-2.
- Seven Falcons had a shot in the game, led by two from Sanchez.
