Falcons' Win Streak Snapped By Choctaws' Late Goal

CLINTON, Miss. – Jess Davenport scored with just less than 11 minutes to go to lift Mississippi College to a 2-1 victory over Montevallo in a crucial Gulf South Conference matchup at Arrow Field Sunday.
Kira Bochard gave Montevallo a 1-0 lead 24:45 into the first half and the Falcons - who came into the match in second place in the GSC standings behind Mississippi College - took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
The Choctaws, who haven't lost in almost two months, came back and tied the match just after halftime on a goal by Lindsey Stephenson at 48:14. The match stayed tied at 1 until the 79:06 mark, when Davenport found the back of the net on a shot in the lower left corner on a Sydney Hughes assist.
Montevallo had shots to tie the match in the final 10 minutes, but were unable to beat Choctaw keeper Gabby Kayser before the final whistle.

With the win, Mississippi College (11-0, 33 points) clinched the Gulf South Conference regular-season championship and the No. 1 seed in the conference's postseason tournament, which starts Nov. 12 at campus sites. Following the loss and wins by West Alabama (9-2-1, 28 pts) and Lee (9-2, 27 pts) on Sunday, Montevallo (8-2-1, 25 pts) fell into fourth place in the GSC standings, one point ahead of West Florida (8-3, 24 pts) with two matches remaining in the regular season.
