MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo men's basketball team earned a 77-73 victory over region-rival Tuskegee University on Tuesday evening at Trustmark Arena, with Cedric Jackson and Jonas Parker providing late 3-pointers to help secure the victory for the Falcons over the Golden Tigers.
Parker notched his second double-double of the season, tallying 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds with Wade Lowman leading all Falcons with 18 points, connecting on 6-of-8 field goal attempts and 6-of-9 free throw attempts. Lowman is now shooting 68.3% for the season.Â
Tuskegee's Myles Thomas tallied a game-high 20 points in the contest, having connected on four treys on 8-of-19 shooting from the floor.Â
The two teams battled to a 15-15 tie over the first 10 minutes of the game, with Romario Spence providing a pair of free throws to give the Falcons a 16-15 lead with 9:26 to go in the first. Montevallo pushed its lead to 22-17 on a Spence dunk with 7:41 to play before the Golden Tigers went on a 5-0 run over the next two minutes to tie the game at 22 points apiece.
Montevallo outscored Tuskegee 11-10 over the final five minutes of the half to take a 33-32 lead into the half.
The Golden Tigers started the second half on a 10-1 run, going up 42-34 on a Thomas 3-pointer with 18:33 to play. Tuskegee would hold a small lead over the next 10 minutes of the frame before a pair of free throws by Kevin Smith tied the contest at 60-60 with 8:41 to play. A three by Jackson gave the Falcons a 63-60 lead less than a minute later, forcing a timeout by the visitors.
Tuskegee would tie the game at 65-65 with 4:09 to play before a Lowman free throw gave the Falcons a one-point lead moments later. With 1:49 to play and the Falcons clinging to a 69-66 lead, Jackson hit a big trey to give his squad some breathing room. A trey by Parker with :37 seconds to play put the final dagger into the visitors, as the Falcons picked up their third victory of the season.
