Volleyball's Win Streak Snapped at West Georgia

CARROLTON, Ga. -The University of Montevallo volleyball team entered their match at the University of West Georgia on Saturday trailing the Wolves by only a half game for third in the Gulf South Conference standings, and in possession of the final first round bye in the GSC volleyball tournament. Unfortunately for the Falcons, the Wolves proved too much and West Georgia snapped Montevallo's five match winning streak.

Montevallo (15-12, 8-4 GSC) fell victim to a strong blocking game from West Georgia (15-10, 9-2 GSC), as the Wolves stuffed 15 Montevallo attacks on their way to the 25-19, 25-19, 25-15.

GAME NOTES
  HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1
  • Four straight points for West Georgia in the early part of set one helped the Wolves take a 6-3 lead. 
  • Two subsequent 6-1 runs helped the Wolves stretch their lead to 19-11 on their way to the 25-19 win.
Set 2
  • Montevallo took the first three points of the second frame, and the Falcons eventually built an 18-13 lead truing to square the match.
  • Late in the set, though, West Georgia seized command and closed the frame out with a 12-1 run to take the stanza 25-19 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3
  • Again in the third, Montevallo took an early 5-3 lead, but an 11-2 West Georgia run gave the Wolves a 14-7 lead, and UWG never looked back.
  • Three times in the final stanza, UWG led by 10 points, and the Wolves closed out the sweep 25-15.

The Falcons will come home for a single match on Tuesday night, when they will host Shorter University (8-18, 1-10 GSC) at 6 p.m.
