Second-Half Surge Lifts Falcons Over Choctaws

MONTEVALLO, Ala. — After trailing 22-19 heading into the half the University of Montevallo men's basketball team exploded for 41 second half points to soar past Gulf South Conference foe Mississippi College on Tuesday evening, earning a 60-47 victory over the Choctaws in league play at the Trustmark Arena.

Senior forward Wade Lowman tallied his second double-double of the season, tallying 21 points and 10 rebounds to help lead the Falcons to victory. Teammates Cedric Jackson and Romario Spence each recorded 11 points for Montevallo while Xavier Malcom notched 10 boards to go along with eight points.

MC's Winford Ross recorded a team-high 18 points, notching a double-double of his own by pulling down 10 rebounds in the defeat. 

The Falcons trailed by three points heading into the second half before eventually tying the game at 27-27 on a Lowman jumper with 16:16 to go in the contest. MC retook the lead moments later but the Falcons would strike back and go ahead 33-31 with 14:04 on the clock on a Malcom layup. 

Beginning with Malcom's layup the Falcons went on 17-2 run over the next seven minutes to go up 50-33 with 7:38 to play. UM would hold the Choctaws at arm's length the rest of the contest to earn the 13-point conference victory.

GAME NOTES

• Montevallo improves to 2-0 in GSC play for the first time since the 2005-06, when the Falcons won the conference championship.
• UM is now 2-0 at home inside Trustmark Arena against the Choctaws. 
• The Falcons are also now 4-2 lifetime against MC.
• Montevallo head coach Danny Young is now two wins away from 400 for his career. He currently stands at 398-176 for his career with a 344-169 mark at UM
• The Falcons will be on the road for the rest of the calendar year, playing six contests away from the friendly confines of Trustmark Arena. UM's next home game will be on Jan. 4, 2020 when GSC foe Auburn Montgomery comes to town.
