TUSKEGEE, Ala. — Montevallo led most of the first half, but an early run in the second half pushed Tuskegee University in front and the Golden Tigers didn't give up their lead for a 75-68 win in Daniel "Chappie" James Center on Wednesday afternoon.
The Falcons led 31-29 at halftime, but Tuskegee built its lead to 10 points, 56-46, with 10:48 to play. A few minutes later,
Cedric Jackson hit back-to-back 3-pointers with less than seven minutes to play to pull the Falcons within a point, 58-51. A Gregg Boyd 3-point play and James Eads 3-point shot quickly pushed Tuskegee's lead back to seven. Montevallo got no closer than five points, while Tuskegee led by 10 four more times.
Playing a full 40 minutes,
Xavier Malcom led Montevallo with a season-high 18 points.
Wade Lowman followed with 14 points and
Cedric Jackson scored 13.
Romario Spence added 10 points.
Eads led Tuskegee with 25 points after a 17-point second half. DeShawn Millington followed 20 points, with 14 coming in the final 20 minutes.
Montevallo (5-3) travels to Clark Atlanta University on Wednesday, Dec. 4 for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
GAME NOTES
• Montevallo falls to 2-2 against Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) teams this season with road games coming up at Clark Atlanta University and Miles College.
• The Falcons will be on the road for the rest of the calendar year, playing five contests away from the friendly confines of Trustmark Arena. UM's next home game will be on Jan. 4, 2020 when GSC foe Auburn Montgomery comes to town.
