Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Three in double figures as Montevallo bests Clark Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. – For the second time in under a month, the University of Montevallo men's basketball team got the better of Clark Atlanta University's squad as the Falcons bested the Panthers, 74-71, on Wednesday night.

Montevallo soared thanks in large part to career performances from Cedric Jackson and Alek Medenica, respectively. Jackson, a senior guard from Orlando, capped the evening with his first career double-double as he poured in 16 points and brought down a career-high 11 rebounds in 38 minutes of game action. Medencia, a 6-foot-7 forward from Belgrade, Serbia, scored a career-high 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting in 22 minutes of game time.

The Falcons, however, were led in scoring by Wade Lowman, who matched his season high with 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 6 of 9 from the free throw line. Lowman just missed his third double-double of the season when he fell two rebounds shy of the 10-rebound mark for the game.

Clark Atlanta (1-8) got off to a 4-0 lead within the game's first minute, but Lowman responded by tying the game with back-to-back layups less than 25 seconds apart. From there, the Falcons worked to steady increase their lead before a jumper from Medencia made it 21-13 with 9:25 remaining in the first half. The Panthers steadily chipped away at the lead, before two Andrew Stewart free throws at the 5:33 mark pushed CAU ahead for the first time since the game's opening minute.

Lowman, again, pushed Montevallo with back-to-back layups in a 15-second span to give the Falcons a quick lead, before the Panthers made a late run to take a 38-37 lead into the locker rooms.

Just like the first half, Clark Atlanta ran out with early baskets to start the half, but Montevallo responded and held the lead for first 10 minutes of the second half. The lead shifted again at the 12:32 mark on a 3-point basket by the Panthers. The Falcons went to work once again and re-took the lead just two minutes later. It was a lead – despite a brief 62-62 tie – Montevallo did not relinquished the rest of the way.

Montevallo (6-3) will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 7 when the Falcons travel to Fairfield, Ala., to face off against Miles College with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
