MONTEVALLO, Ala. - University of Montevallo men's and women's swimming continued its historic inaugural season Friday, hosting Birmingham-Southern College in their first home swim dual at the McChesney Student Activity Center Natatorium.
Montevallo set nine pool records and saw a few more program records set in its second meet of the 2019-2020 season.
The two teams combined for 188 points with the women's team scoring 97 and the men's team scoring 91.
RECORD-SETTERS
- Montevallo set nine pool records with wins in the first-ever meet at the McChesney Student Activity Center Natatorium.
- Will Mahone set two pool records with wins in the 100 backstroke (53.32) and 200 backstroke (1:59.92). His 200 performance broke the UM school record he set on Oct. 27 by 0.91 of a second.
- Joshua Sauer also set two pool records and two UM program records with wins in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:12.81) and the 500 freestyle (4:56.05). It is Montevallo's first swim in the 1,000 free, and Sauer's 500 time was 3.86 seconds faster than his time at Sewanee.
- In addition to his two pool records, Sauer also broke his UM record in the 200 butterfly, finishing third with a time of 2:03.90, beating his previous time by 5.19 seconds.
- Parker Bell set a new record in the 100-yard freestyle with a third-place time of 50.34.
- Molly Hansen also set two pool records, winning the 100 backstroke (1:10.05) and 200 backstroke (2:30.79) on her birthday.
- Amanda Ware set a new UM record and pool record in the 100 butterfly, swimming a time of 1:03.15.
- Lexi Cardwell was the other Falcon to etch her name in the record books, setting the pool record in the 100-yard freestyle at 57.38.
- UM also set the women's pool record in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
- Hailey Vance broke the UM women's 100-yard backstroke record with a second-place time of 1:03.47.
- Birmingham-Southern now owns 18 UM pool records, winning 18 of the combined 26 events Friday.
