Snodgrass’ career performance fuels Montevallo to seventh win

JACKSON, Tenn. - Marisa Snodgrass showed why head coach Gary Van Atta considered her a "perfect fit for the Montevallo program" as the freshman scored a career-high 16 points in the Falcons' 63-50 win at Lane College on Saturday afternoon.  

Snodgrass, a freshman from Hazel Green, Ala., reached her point total on 6-of-10 shooting, including a career-high four 3-point baskets. She also dished out a team-high five assists, while pulling down three rebounds and being credited with three steals in a team-high 32 minutes of game action.

Game Notes 

  • Shyan Flack made it back-to-back games with a double-double as the sophomore from Somerville, Ala., finished the game with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She scored 19 points and brought down 12 rebounds against Stillman College earlier in the week. Saturday afternoon marked the fourth double-double on the season for Flack.  

  • Jordan Jones, a sophomore from Helena, Ala., set a season high with seven points scored on a season-high three made field goal attempts, including one 3-point basket. Her previous high this season was six on two different occasions.  

  • Playing in her hometown of Jackson, Tenn., sophomore forward Savannah Lee scored six points on 2-of-5 shooting in 14 minutes of game action. She also sank two free throws and had one rebounds.

How It Happened 

1st Quarte

  • Lane College responded to an early 3-point basket from Sain to make it 3-2 just over one minute into the game, but then the Falcons soared on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to give themselves an early double-digit lead.  

  • Montevallo, again, took a double-figure lead at 20-9 following a Jordan Jones jumper with 2:43 remaining in the quarter.  

2nd Quarter 

  • Lane College cut its deficit to five points on five three throws, while holding Montevallo scoreless for the quarter's first four-and-a-half minutes until Sain sank a pair of free throws at the 5:38 mark.  

  • The Dragons held the Falcons to only 10 second-quarter points.  

3rd Quarter 

  • Montevallo opened the second half with two layups from Flack and Snodgrass, respectively, to extend its lead back to nine just two minutes into the third quarter.  

  • From there, Lane College cut its deficit to six with a 3-point basket, but Montevallo answered with a 7-0 run to make it 41-28 midway through the quarter. The Dragons never got closer than seven during the remainder of the third.  

4th Quarter 

  • A quick 6-0 run for Montevallo to begin the fourth quarter gave the Falcons a 16-point lead following a Lee jumper at the 7:28 mark.  

  • The two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the game with Montevallo's lead never getting smaller than 11.  

Up Next 

Montevallo will be off the next 10 days before resuming Gulf South Conference play on Dec. 17 when the Falcons travel to Carrollton, Ga., to play the University of West Georgia with game time scheduled for 4:30 p.m. central time.
