Montevallo drops first road match at Embry-Riddle 11-9

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The University of Montevallo men's lacrosse team fell to host Embry-Riddle 11-9 on the road in a non-conference match Feb. 14.
Freshman Connor Frederick scored a team-high three goals for the Falcons, who fell to 1-2 overall on the season.
Freshman Chaiton Williams added a pair of goals. Sophomores Kordell Primus and Ryan Shea and freshmen Jackson Neufeld and Anthony Pecoraro scored one goal each.
Neufeld registered the Falcons' lone assist in the match.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Little recorded nine saves while playing all 60 minutes in the contest.
Freshman Luke Stephens won 7-of-18 face-off attempts in the match.

KEY GOALS

1st (11:25) | Freshman Anthony Pecoraro scored the first goal in the match, unassisted, to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
1st (7:49) | Freshman Jackson Neufeld scored his first goal, unassisted, to put the Falcons up 2-1 midway through the first quarter.
1st (2:35) | Freshman Chaiton Williams scored his first goal, unassisted, to again give Montevallo a one-goal lead at 3-2.
1st (0:30) | Mitchell Cody of Embry-Riddle scored an unassisted goal to tie the match at 3-3 at the end of the opening quarter.
2nd (2:20) | Sophomore Kordell Primus scored a goal off an assist from Neufeld to give Montevallo a 5-4 lead late in the first half.
2nd (1:59) | The Eagles tied the match at 5-5 with the final goal of the opening half scored by Jacob Shripsema off an assist Kyle Dalrymple.
3rd (12:25) | Freshman Connor Frederick scored the first goal in the second half to give the Falcons a 6-5 lead.
3rd (10:22) | The Falcons took their first two-goal lead in the match following an unassisted goal by sophomore Ryan Shea, which put the Falcons up 7-5.
3rd (3:44) | Gavin Madden scored a goal to cap a run of four consecutive goals by Embry-Riddle in a seven-minute stretch in the third quarter to give the Eagles a 9-7 lead.
4th (12:16) | Jared Kane scored a goal off an assist from Mitchell Cody to extend the Eagles' scoring streak to six consecutive goals as Embry-Riddle pushed its lead to 11-7.
4th (8:44) | Frederick scored an unassisted goal to trim the Eagles' lead to 11-8.
4th (6:41) | Williams scored the Falcons' final goal, unassisted, in the 11-9 setback.

GAME NOTES
  • Montevallo outshot the Eagles 46-39 but Embry-Riddle held a 20-17 edge in shots on goal.
  • Embry-Riddle won 15 face offs compared to eight won by Montevallo in the contest.
  • The Eagles committed eight penalties in the match, while the Falcons committed four penalties.
  • Both teams finished just 1-of-7 in man-up opportunities in the match.
  • The Falcons finished with a successful clear in 24-of-31 attempts, while the Eagles finished with 18 successful clears in 24 attempts.
