Falcons fall on the road 12-7 to Palm Beach Atlantic

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The University of Montevallo men's lacrosse team fell to host Palm Beach Atlantic University 12-7 on the road in a non-conference game Feb. 16.

Sophomore Thomas Vaesen scored a team-high four goals, and recorded one assist for the Falcons, who fell to 1-3 overall on the season.

Sophomore Kordell Primus added a pair of goals. Sophomore Alex Dozzi added one goal and Sophomore Ryan Shea recorded a team-high two assists. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Little recorded 15 saves and 11 groundballs, while playing all 60 minutes in the contest.

Freshman Luke Stephens won 13-of-20 face-off attempts in the game.

KEY GOALS

1st (10:33) | Sophomore Alex Dozzi scored the first goal for Montevallo, off an assist from Sophomore Thomas Vaesen, to tie Palm Beach Atlantic 1-1.

2nd (3:38) | After six straight goals by the Sailfish, Vaesen scored unassisted in a man-up situation, giving the Falcons their second goal of the game. 

3rd (10:33) | Vaesen again found the back of the net, assisted by sophomore Ryan Shea, cutting the Sailfish lead to 7-3. 

3rd (0:18) | After Palm Beach added three more goals, sophomore Kordell Primus scored unassisted. 

4th (12:52) | Primus scored his second goal of the day, unassisted, to trail Palm Beach 11-5.

4th (8:52) | Vaesen scored his hat-trick goal off an assist from Shea in a man-up situation.

4th (8:15) | Vaesen quickly found the back of the net again for his fourth goal of the game, in a man-up situation, assisted by freshman Jackson Neufeld.

GAME NOTES

  • Montevallo outshot the Sailfish 49-47.
  • Montevallo won 14 face offs compared to eight won by Palm Beach Atlantic in the contest.
  • The Falcons edged Palm Beach Atlantic in groundballs 54-48.
  • Montevallo finished 3-of-5 in man-up opportunities in the game, while Palm Beach Atlantic finished just 2-of-7.
  • The Falcons finished with a successful clear in 19-of-25 attempts, while the Sailfish finished with 30 successful clears in 30 attempts.

UP NEXT

The Falcons will return home Sunday, Feb. 24 with a non-conference game against Florida Southern College in Montevallo, Ala. Face off is set for 12 p.m.
