MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team fell on the road to Christian Brothers University 79-58 in a Gulf South Conference contest Feb. 16 at Canale Arena in Memphis, Tennessee.
Christian Brothers guard Joe Laravie scored a game-high 22 points, on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor and 4-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc.
The Falcons (9-18 overall, 5-12 in Gulf South Conference) were outrebounded by the Buccaneers 38-25.
Montevallo finished with a 30-28 edge in the paint and outscored the Buccaneers 10-2 in points off turnovers.
The Falcons forced 10 turnovers by the Buccaneers, and only turned the ball over three times.
The Falcons jumped out to a 4-0 lead early when Junior Wade Lowman scored a layup off an assist from Junior Cam Copeland.
Christian Brothers responded with a 17-0 run over the next six minutes, to lead 17-4 after a 3-pointer by Nick Deifel with 13:22 remaining in the half.
The Buccaneers outscored the Falcons 28-16 down the stretch of the first half to lead 42-20 at halftime.Â
Christian Brothers began the second half on an 11-2 run, to jump out to their largest lead of the game 53-22 with 15:22 remaining in the game.
The Falcons responded with a 23-14 run over the next seven minutes of play capped by a layup from Senior Zach Jackson, to cut the Christian Brothers lead to 19, 64-45.
With 5:22 remaining, Copeland hit a jumper, making it a 17 point game, 68-51.
The Buccaneers outscored Montevallo 11-9 in the last five minutes of the game to win 79-58.
Sophomore Micah Fuller scored a team-high 14 points, while Lowman led the Falcons in rebounds with five, and Copeland recorded a team-high six assists.
Montevallo will return to Gulf South Conference play Thursday, Feb. 21 when the Falcons travel to Huntsville, Alabama to take on the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
