Falcons fall to visiting Florida Southern 20-12

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's lacrosse team fell to visiting Florida Southern College 20-12 in a non-conference game Feb. 24.

Sophomore Thomas Vaesen scored a team-high six goals in the loss to the Moccasins.

Sophomore Ryan Shea added two goals and two assists to compile four points, while sophomore Connor Frederick also added a pair of goals.

Sophomore Kordell Primus and freshman Dante Cloutier added one goal and one assist each.

Sophomore Kyle Little registered 24 saves in the game.

KEY GOALS

1st (12:17) | Jeff Atlas scored a goal off an assist from Sean Nolan to give Florida Southern a 1-0 lead.

1st (8:16) | Freshman Connor Frederick scored an unassisted goal to trim the Mocs' lead to 2-1.

1st (00:02) | Freshman Dante Cloutier scored a goal off an assist from sophomore Ryan Shea to tie the game at 3-3 at the end of the first quarter.

2nd (0:33) | Nolan scored a goal off an assist from Winwood as the Mocs outscored the Falcons 6-1 in the second quarter and carried a 9-4 lead into the break at halftime.

3rd (11:44) | Skyler Sarkisian scored a goal off an assist from Joe Appio to push the Florida Southern lead to 12-4.

3rd (9:37) | Sophomore Thomas Vaesen scored back-to-back goals, the second off an assist from Cloutier, to help the Falcons trim the deficit to 12-6.

4th (0:13) | Vaesen capped the scoring for the Falcons in the game with a goal off an assist from sophomore Kordell Primus in a man-up opportunity.

GAME NOTES
  • Florida Southern outshot the Falcons 64-45 in the game.
  • The Mocs compiled 59 ground balls in the contest compared to 38 by Montevallo.
  • Florida Southern won 23 face offs compared to 12 face offs won by the Falcons.
