RECAP

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team defeated UAH 59-54 in a Gulf South Conference contest on the road Feb. 21 at Kelly Court in Spragins Hall.

Montevallo shot 44 percent (22-of-50) from the floor and 35 percent (5-of-14) from beyond the arc, while the Chargers shot just 32 percent (18-of-56) from the field and 21 percent (5-of-23) from 3-point range.

The Montevallo bench outscored its counterparts 15-5.

The Falcons outrebounded UAH 40-29 overall, each team totaled 10 offensive rebounds. 

The Falcons jumped out to a 7-4 lead following a jumper by freshman Shyan Flack with 5:29 left in the first quarter.

Montevallo stretched its lead to as many as five points late in the opening period before the Chargers cut the deficit to 15-12 at the end of the first period.

The Falcons took their largest lead of the first half following a layup by Cheyenne Cunningham with 2:05 remaining in the second period, which gave Montevallo a 27-18 lead.

UAH closed the opening half on a 4-0 run. Montevallo led 27-22 at the end of the first half.

Montevallo led 37-31 in the third period after a three pointer form Kiya Sain with 2:28 remaining in the period. 

UAH closed the third period on a 5-2 run but the Falcons led 39-36 at end of the third.

The Chargers opened the fourth period on a 5-2 run to tie the game 41-41 with 6:58 remaining in the game, after a free-throw from Holly Harris.

The Falcons responded with a 10-5 run to lead 51-46 with 2:59 remaining after a jumper from freshman Savannah Lee.

Montevallo outscored UAH 8-5 down the stretch of the fourth period to lead 59-51 with seven seconds remaining.

UAH's Holly Harris hit a three pointer as time expired and the Falcons took the win 59-54.

Freshman Shyan Flack led the Falcons with 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor and 2-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc.

Junior Aaliyah Rice chipped in 14 points and three rebounds.

Flack led Montevallo on the boards with nine rebounds. 

Montevallo will return to action Saturday, Feb. 23 with a Gulf South Conference contest against the University of West Florida at Trustmark Arena in Montevallo, Alabama. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.
