MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team fell at home to No. 19 University of West Florida 62-53 in a Gulf South Conference contest Feb. 23 at Trustmark Arena in Montevallo, Alabama.
West Florida shot 40 percent (21-of-52) from the floor and 20 percent (4-of-20) from beyond the arc while the Falcons shot just 33 percent (18-of-54) from the floor and 16 percent (2-of-12) from beyond the arc.
West Florida owned a 38-33 rebound advantage. Each team totaled 11 offensive rebounds.Â

Montevallo (12-15 overall, 8-11 in Gulf South Conference) opened the contest with a 8-4 run, capped with a jumper by junior Aaliyah Rice with 6:45 remaining in the first period, before the Falcons ended the quarter with a 14-13 lead.
The Falcons opened the second period with a 12-4 run to give the Falcons their largest lead of the game, 26-17 with 2:39 remaining in the quarter after a free throw by freshman Savannah Lee, before carrying a 28-20 lead into the locker room at halftime.
A free throw from freshman Shyan Flack in the beginning of the third period gave the Falcons a nine point lead 29-20.Â
The Argonauts took their first lead of the game after going on a 13-0 run over the next four minutes of play to lead 33-29 after a jumper from Toni Brewer.
Montevallo tied the game 35-35 after a layup from Freshman Jordan Jones in transition with 3:04 remaining in the third.
West Florida closed out the third period on a 7-0 run to lead 42-35.
The Argonauts went on a 5-0 run in the fourth to take their biggest lead of the game 47-37 with 6:00 remaining in the game.Â
Flack ended the Argonauts run with a pair of free throw to cut West Florida's lead to single digits 47-39 with 5:15 remaining.
A three pointer from Rice cut the West Florida lead to five, 55-50 with 2:02 remaining in the game.
West Florida outscored the Falcons 7-3 down the stretch of the game to win 62-53.
Montevallo held the lead against the No.19 ranked Argonauts for the first 23 minutes of play, their largest being nine points.
