VALDOSTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team defeated Valdosta State University 5-2 in a Gulf South Conference match March 26.
The Falcons improved to 7-6 overall and 4-1 in Gulf South Conference play following the victory.
Senior Emily Beatty defeated Daniella Barta of Valdosta State 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles' match. Junior Amanda Gautreaux topped the Blazers' Eva Rivoal 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles' match.
Freshman Whitney Hamilton took down Hera Brynjarsdottir of Valdosta State 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles' match. Senior Rayne Sinclair defeated the Blazers' Rachel Chan-Yaneff 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 6 singles' match.
The Falcons swept all three of the doubles' matches to earn the doubles' point.
Sophomores Maria Garcia and Dorotea Hanzek defeated Barta and Estee Widdershoven of Valdosta State 7-6 in the No. 1 doubles' match.
Freshman Anne-Christine Leu and Beatty took down Brynsjardottir and Rivoal 6-3 in the No. 2 doubles' match, while Sinclair and Gautreaux topped Chan-Yaneff and Birte Langestein of Valdosta State 7-6 in the No. 3 doubles' match.
The Falcons will return to action Thursday, March 28 on the road at the University of West Florida in another Gulf South Conference match.
