MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when sophomore pinch runner Caroline Pope scored on an error by West Alabama.
  • The Tigers plated six runs in the top of the sixth inning, highlighted with a three-run homer to left field by Nicole Buccieri.
  • Montevallo scored its final run in the bottom of the sixth inning when junior Mariel Bertossi scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by junior Haley Barnette.

  • Junior Haley Barnette finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run while driving in two runs and scoring two runs.
  • Sophomore Brooke Ingram went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and scored one run.
  • Junior Mariel Bertossi finished 2-for-4 at the plate while driving in one run and scoring two runs.
  • Senior Lady Sarah Federico went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in one run.
  • Sophomore Carlee Mullinax finished 1-for-4 at the plate with a double and drove in two runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • West Alabama took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning after scoring a run on an error by the Falcons and a RBI single up the middle by Hayes Fulford.
  • The Falcons took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI single by junior Mariel Bertossi and a two-run homer by junior Haley Barnette.
  • The Tigers scored four runs in the top of the second inning on a two-run double by Kacey Noland and a two-run homer by Allison Craft to take a 6-3 lead.
  • Senior Lady Sarah Federico helped the Falcons trim the deficit to 6-4 with a RBI single to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning.
  • Montevallo tied the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the fifth following a two-run double by sophomore Carlee Mullinax.
  • The Tigers scored the go-ahead run on an error by the Falcons in the top of the eighth inning before the tying run for Montevallo was cut down at home plate in the bottom half of the frame.
UP NEXT

The Falcons and the Tigers will continue the Gulf South Conference series Saturday, March 9 in the third and final game with first pitch set for 11 a.m. at Orr Park.
