Freddies award winners honored Tuesday, April 23

MONTEVALLO, Ala.
 – The University of Montevallo Athletic Department hosted its third annual The Freddies awards ceremony Tuesday, April 23 at 8 p.m. at Palmer Auditorium to recognize the department's annual student-athlete award winners.

Nominees and the winner in each applicable category can be found below.

JAN EAGLES AWARD (Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year)

FALCON CUP (The Falcon Cup is awarded by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee to the team that best combined academics, community service and SAAC attendance during the academic year. The award winner is still to be determined.)

WINNER - Men's Basketball         Micah Fuller                       2/28/19 Win 57-54 vs DSU          
Micah Fuller hit a three pointer at the buzzer to lift the falcons to a 57-54 win over Delta State.
 
Softball                               Mariel Bertossi                 3/09/19 Win 8-7 vs UWA             
Mariel Bertossi hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to win 8-7.
 
Women's Soccer              Romee Contreras             9/23/19 3-2 OT win at No. 19 Lee.           
Romee Contreras scored the game-winning goal in OT to knock off No. 19 Lee on the road.
 
Women's Soccer              Victoria Whitehouse        10/30/18 1-0 win over No. 18 Mississippi College in GSC Tournament
Victoria Whitehouse scored the game winning Goal in the 84th minute to defeat the No. 18 ranked Choctaws 1-0 in the GSC quarterfinal and advance to the semifinal.
 
Baseball                              John Michael Reed          2/9/19 vs. Trevecca Nazarene
John Michael Reed robbed a home run by the Trojans in a 7-6 setback against Trevecca Nazarene.
 
GAME OF THE YEAR/EVENT OF THE YEAR
 
WINNER - Women's Soccer                                                      10/30/19 1-0 win over No. 18 Mississippi College in GSC Tournament
Victoria Whitehouse scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute to defeat the No. 18 ranked Choctaws 1-0 and advance to the semifinal.
 
Women's Basketball                                                     2/7/19 66-60 win over Lee at home.       
Falcons upset No.25 Lee 66-60 at home. This was the first time win against a nationally ranked team under head coach Gary Van Atta.
 
Men's Golf                                                                      4/1-2/19 Runner-up at West Florida Invitational
The Falcons finish tied for second in the West Florida Invitational tournament after finishing ahead of 11 ranked teams, with junior Paul Murphy finishing third overall in individual standings.
 
Baseball                                                                           3/23/19 6-5 win over West Georgia
Tyler Krabbe tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth after a two-run homer to force extra innings. The Falcons were down 4-3 in the bottom of the tenth and won on a walk-off two-run double by Krabbe.
 
Softball                                                                            3/30/19 6-5 win over Mississippi College              
The Falcons overcame a 5-2 deficit in the sixth to win the game 6-5 after a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh by Carlee Mullinax.
 
PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR
 
WINNER - Men's Lacrosse            Thomas Vaesen                2/9/19 24-18 win against Mars Hill              
Thomas Vaesen became second all-time in the NCAA Record books for goals scored in a game with 11 goals scored. Vaesen totaled 14 points to tie for third all-time.
 
Baseball                              Tyler Krabbe                      3/17/19 13-11 Win at Union                                     
Tyler Krabbe finished 4-of-7 from the plate as he hit-for-the-cycle with a three-run home run, a triple, a double and a single. Krabbe drove in three runs and scored four runs.
 
Women's Soccer              Annie Mason                    GSC Tournament            
Annie Mason totaled 21 saves and allowed only 1 goal in three games of the GSC Tournament. Mason recorded eight saves and allowed no goals in the semifinal vs Lee. Mason posted a 95 percent save percentage for the tournament. 
 
Women's Lacrosse          Irfana Ahmed                    3/20/19 W 13-12 at Lee
Irfana Ahmed totaled 15 saves in the one-goal victory.
 
Women's Track and Field              Hunter Chavarry               3/22-23/19 Falcon Classic
Hunter Chavarry set a school record in the women's heptathlon, totaling 4,844 points, which put her among the top five point totals nationally at the time.
