Falcons clinch spot in GSC Tournament with sweep of Lee

GAME 1 INFORMATION

Score: Montevallo 6, Lee 2

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS
  • Freshman Ben Teel finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run and a double while driving in two runs and scoring two runs in the win in the first game of the doubleheader, which helped the Falcons clinch a spot in the Gulf South Conference Tournament for the second year in a row.
  • Junior Sebastian Samuels went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and scored one run.
  • Junior Ryan Brooks finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double.
  • Junior Davis Lott went 2-for-4 at the plate while driving in one run and scoring one run.
  • Freshman Ty Wooton finished 1-for-4 at the plate while driving in two runs and scoring one run.
  • Junior Jake Morris went 1-for-4 at the plate.
  • Senior Jason Cryar scored one run.
  • Senior Chrit Rudkin (4-5) earned the win after allowing two earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and three walks in 7 2/3 innings on the mound.
  • Junior Chandler Ingram recorded one strikeout while allowing just one hit in 1 1/3 innings in relief on his way to his second save of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lee took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a RBI sacrifice fly by Alan Smith.
  • The Falcons plated four runs in the top of the fourth inning following a RBI single by junior Davis Lott, a RBI double by freshman Ben Teel and a two-run single by freshman Ty Wooton to take a 4-1 lead.
  • Montevallo extended its lead to 5-1 in the top of the sixth inning following a solo home run by Teel.
  • The Flames trimmed the deficit to 5-2 on a RBI single by Thomas Zazzaro in the bottom of the seventh inning.
  • The Falcons scored their final run when Wooton scored on a throwing error by the Flames in the top of the ninth inning.

  • Senior Khari Anderson finished 1-for-2 at the plate while driving in one run and scoring two runs.
  • Seniors Jason Cryar and Tyler Krabbe drove in two runs and scored one run each.
  • Junior John Benevolent scored one run in the victory.
  • Junior Chandler Ingram (4-0) pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts and earned the win in relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when freshman Ben Teel scored on a bases-loaded walk issued to senior Jason Cryar.
  • Lee tied the game at 1-1 following a solo home run by Miguel Pimentel in the bottom of the fourth inning.
  • Montevallo pushed eight runs across in the top of the fifth inning, highlighted with a grand slam by junior Sebastian Samuels and solo home runs by junior Davis Lott and Teel in succession, which gave the Falcons a 9-1 advantage.
  • The Flames trimmed the Falcons' lead to 9-2 on a RBI single by Parker Stahlman in the bottom of the fifth inning.
  • The Falcons plated two runs in the top of the sixth inning, the first on a RBI sacrifice fly by Cryar and the second when senior Khari Anderson reached on an error by the Flames, to push their lead to 11-2.
