MONTEVALLO, Ala. — The University of Montevallo baseball team will look to continue its winning ways when the Falcons travel to Carrollton, Ga., for a two-day, three-game series with the University of West Georgia.
The two teams will open with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 22 with the start times scheduled for 1 and 4 p.m., respectively. The series finale will begin on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 12 p.m.
QUICK HITTERS
- Montevallo enters this weekend's series with West Georgia with a 7-3 mark, which is the best start to a season through 10 games since going 7-3 to open the 2018 season.
- Khalid Collymore, a freshman who missed the season-opening game, leads Montevallo with 13 hits in 28 plate appearances. His .464 batting average is .50 points higher than the next closer batter, Asa Awbrey.
- Despite being a bullpen arm, Chandler Ingram leads the team with three wins in seven appearances, which also includes two saves, in 13.1 innings pitched. His 2.70 earned run average is the lowest by a Falcon pitcher with more than five innings pitched.
SCOUTING THE WOLVES
- West Georgia, which is off to a 7-3 start to the season, enters this weekend's series as the No. 10 team in the South Region rankings released by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. UWG is one of four GSC teams (Mississippi College, Delta State and West Florida) to be ranked in this week's region poll.
- Dan Oberst leads UWG is several offensive statistical categories as his three home runs, 11 runs batted in and 21 total bases are tops on the team. His .600 slugging percent and eight stolen bases are also top marks for the Wolves.
- After cruising through non-conference play with a 5-2 record, UWG enters this weekend's series against Montevallo with a 7-3 mark after taking two of three from Lee University last weekend. The Wolves dropped the series opening, 6-2, before returning to form and winning the next two games 6-3 and 6-5.
SERIES HISTORY
- Montevallo has not lost a series to West Georgia since dropping two of three during the 2015 season. The Falcons have won two of three during both the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
- Since the 2014 season, whichever team scores 10-or-more runs has won the game. Montevallo has reached that mark four times since 2014, while West Georgia has only done it once.
- West Georgia is currently riding a one-game winning streak in the series after taking the final game of a three-game series last season.
