Valdosta State runs away with win against Montevallo

VALDOSTA, Ga. — A first-half defensive matchup quickly turned into a second-half offensive frenzy when Montevallo fell to Valdosta State, 105-74, Thursday night.

As Valdosta State (21-3, 15-2) took a 39-24 lead into the second half, the Blazers held Montevallo (12-13, 8-9) to a 29.41 shooting percentage (10-34), including 23.08 percent (3-13) from behind the 3-point arc and 25 percent (1-4) from the free throw line throughout the first half.

Then, during the second half, the script flipped as the Falcons shot 62.50 percent (20-32) from the field, including 62.50 percent (5-8) from 3-point land, and 62.50 percent (5-8) from the free throw line. However, the Blazers made it impossible to overcome the 15-point first-half deficit as Valdosta State shot 70.59 percent (24-34) from the field, which included six 3-pointers and 12 (of 14) free throws.

Wade Lowman paced the Falcons with 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while bringing down three rebounds. Romario Spence chipped in with 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting in 20 minutes of game action off the bench. Jonas Parker rounded out a trio of Montevallo double-figure scorers as he finished the game with 10 points.

Montevallo will continue its hunt for a postseason conference tournament berth when the Falcons hit the road for Pensacola, Fla., to square off against the University of West Florida on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 4 p.m. CT.
