Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala - Montevallo lost to No. 23 Columbus State, 9-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Burger King Stadium in Columbus, Georgia.
The Falcons (8-6) fell behind early, after the Cougars (11-3) scored four runs in the second inning, two in the third inning, and could not make up the deficit.
Sophomore
Ben Teel was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored in the loss. Freshman
Tucker Marrillia had the lone RBI for the Falcons, with a double of his own, in the sixth inning.
The Falcons bullpen bent but did not break versus the Cougars, pitching out of jams and allowing just one earned run in 5.1 innings of work.
Kuster Kinlecheenie, Collin Booten, Zach Toth and
Christian Simon
each worked an inning of scoreless relief. Starting pitcher
Ryan Duncan took his first loss of the season.
NEXT UP: The Falcons return home this weekend for GSC in-state rival Auburn University at Montgomery (4-9, 3-3 GSC). Game one of the three-game GSC series is set for Friday, 3:00pm central.
