MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo Baseball team won game one against Auburn University-Montgomery 13 - 8 on Friday, February 28th. Starting on the mound for the Falcons was freshman,
Grayson Bray. The Warhawks homered to center field, scoring 2 runs. Another home run would score 3 runs, giving the Warhawks a 5 - 0 lead. The Falcons started the inning with bases loaded. Freshman
Evan Place sailed a grand slam to right center field, equalizing the score. Â
The Falcons gave up one run in the top of the 2nd inning.Â
Tucker Marrillia was able to even the score again with his single home run to center field in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Redshirt freshman,
Zach Toth would come in to pitch for the Falcons. The Warhawks would pick up another run in the top of the 4th inning.Â
Ben Teel tied the game on a sacrified fly by
Davis Lott.Â
The game remained tied until the bottom of the 6th inning when the Falcons bats warmed up again. Freshman
Asa Awbrey got the party started with a single to center field. With bases loaded, freshman
Mitch Fleming hit a grand slam. Now up by 4 runs, the Falcons didn't stop there. Senior
Ryan Brooks had a single home run to close out the inning.Â
The Falcons didn't need a seventh inning stretch to hold off the Warhawks. Each team would score one more run before the Falcons put it away at the top of the 9th. Toth had a really good game and receives credit for the win.
The Falcons and Warhawks return to Bob Reisener Stadium at Kermit Johnson field on Saturday for a double header. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
