MONTEVALLO, Ala - The University of Montevallo softball team battled for a tough victory against the Auburn Montgomery Warhawks Friday night in Motown.
The Warhawks started the game on top scoring the first two runs in the first and second inning. The Falcons were scoreless for 4.5 innings until junior
Carlee Mullinax hit a major homerun that sent her and two other Falcons in to homeplate tying the game 3-3. Head coach
Lindsay Vanover opened up about the strategic decision to insert Mullinax, "We were looking for a change of pace bringing Carlee in. She had seen her before in high school, had a quality at bat and it was no doubt when it left her bat."
At the top of the sixth inning UM handled the late game pressure as junior pitcher
Mychael McMillan struck out Gracie Poe with two Warhawks left on base. The Warhawks had a chance to take a lead before the strike out, with runners on second and third.
At the bottom of the sixth the Falcons persevered as junior
Sierra Easterwood homered, which allowed her and senior
Haley Barnette to bring in two more runs making the score 5-3 in favor of UM.
The Falcons sealed the deal at the top of the seventh when senior catcher
Mariel Bertossi caught a pop up foul for the third out, ultimately securing the victory for Montevallo.
NEXT UP: The Falcons will finish the three game series against AUM in a double header on Saturday February 28th, with the first game set to start at 12:00P.M.
