HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — For the first time in his Montevallo playing career,
Jonas Parker scored 30 points in a basketball, but it wasn't enough as the Falcons fell to UAH, 82-72, Saturday afternoon.
In 37 minutes of game action, Parker, a junior from Brooklyn, New York, surpassed his previous career-high 29 points with a 30-point performance on 13-of-20 shooting, including two 3-point baskets and two free throws. He also brought down four rebounds, dished out three assists and was credited with one steal and one block.
Xavier Malcom came on late with a 17-point game on 7-of-14 shooting with three baskets from beyond the 3-point arc. He also was credited with a team-high four assists, two rebounds and one steal while playing the game's entire 40 minutes.
Cedric Jackson, who came off the bench against UAH, knocked down three 3-pointers en route to finishing with 11 points, four assists and three rebounds.
It was, however, the shooting of Chargers guard Max Shulman that was Montevallo's undoing as Shulman knocked down eight 3-point baskets throughout the game on his way to a game-high 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting. Sam Orf and Seth Swalve both finished in double figures from UAH with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
UAH used a bomb borage of 3-pointers to build its lead as by halftime the Chargers were already up 48-34, then quickly pushed it to 51-34 just seconds into the second half. The closest Montevallo got throughout the second was eight points after
Wade Lowman knocked down a pair of free throws with 2:43 remaining in the game.
Montevallo (11-11, 7-7) will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 13 when the Falcons host Union University at 7:30 p.m.
