BIRMINGHAM, Ala - The University of Montevallo mens lacrosse team took a tough loss against the Coker University Cobras, after a rainy day of back and forth action.
Coker started the game hot building up a 5-2 lead. That was until Montevallo picked up its defensive intensity in the second quarter which allowed them to tie the game 10-10 before the end of the first half but went into half time down by one (12-11). UM kicked off the second half with a quick score which tied the game 12-12.
The Montevallo defensive strategic change allowed the Falcons to take their first lead of the game 13-12 with 6:12 left in the third quarter. The Cobras kept fighting as they managed to bring the lead back to two to end the third quarter. The Falcons kept up the intensity in the fourth quarter after a goal from Jackson Neufield gave them the lead back.
Coker then took the lead back by one point and put themselves in a position to milk the last 45 seconds off of the clock ultimately sealing their victory.
Freshman
Scott Friant led the Falcons in goals (4) and assists (2) where he continues to lead the entire team with 11 total assists. Sophomore
Dylan Witt led UM defensively collecting 5 groundballs and causing 3 of Cokers turnovers.
NEXT UP: Montevallo will host Barton College on Saturday March 7th, first faceoff is set for 11:00 AM.
