MONTEVALLO, Ala - The Montevallo Falcons (11-9 overall, 5-7 GSC) split their doubleheader with the Union Bulldogs (8-12 overall, 3-6 GSC) on Saturday winning the first game in 10 innings 4-3 and losing the nightcap 5-0. Most important, the Falcons won their first GSC series of the season two games to one and improved their conference record.
In the first game of the doubleheader, Union scored first in the top of the first to make it a 1-0 game. The Falcons answered in the bottom of the 2nd when senior
Davis Lott reached on an error and freshman
Mitch Fleming singled. Senior
Ryan Brooks moved the runners to second and third base setting up freshman
Evan Liddie who singled driving in both runners.
The game was a pitching duel between Union starter Walker Adkisson and Falcon starter redshirt freshman
Zach Toth. Toth threw no-hit ball for five innings before giving up two hits in the sixth when Union parlayed the hits into two runs and a 3-2 lead over the Falcons.
Montevallo tied the game in the eighth when senior pinch hitter
Sebastian Samuels singled and freshman
Reed Latimer pinch ran for Samuels. Freshman
Jake Smallwood walked and then a wild pitch moved Latimer to third. Pinch hitter
Tucker Marrillia singed driving in Latimer and tying the game at 3-3.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the tenth when senior
Jake Morris made things happen with a bunt single and excellent base running. Morris stole second and on the steal, a wild pitch allowed Morris to move to third base. After a walk to freshman Asa Awbry, sophomore
Ben Teel looked at ball four as it went to the backstop for another wild pitch and Morris ran home with the winning run.
The Falcon bullpen stepped up and slammed the door on the Bulldogs allowing four hits over 4 2/3 innings. Senior

Chandler Ingram who had another outstanding outing and got the win for the Falcons.
The second game of the doubleheader saw Union senior pitcher Brandon Maxwell shut out the Falcons in seven innings. Maxwell allowed 3 hits and struck out 8 with 2 base on balls. The Falcons could not get any offense going.
NEXT UP: The Falcons travel to Birmingham on Wednesday to take on Miles College. Game time is 12 noon as the Falcons try to win their 12
th game of the season.
