COLUMBUS, GA —The University of Montevallo men's tennis team was defeated by #2 Columbus State University 7-0 in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon in Columbus, Georgia. The Falcons fall to 3-4 this season while the Columbus State Cougars, members of the Peach Belt Conference and newly-crowned Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Indoor champions, move to 9-0.
The Falcons picked up an early 6-2 doubles victory from the team of juniors
Georg Trompler and
Tanguy David at line 2, but Columbus State won at lines 1 and 3 to secure the doubles point. Trompler and David are now 4-3 as a pair this season.
Columbus State carried their momentum from earning the doubles point over into singles play and got the best of the Falcons at every line. Junior
Tanguy David pushed his opponent to a second-set tiebreak at line 2, but came up just short.
NEXT UP: The Falcons are back in action on Wednesday, March 11 at 3:00 pm when they travel to Livingston, Alabama to take on Gulf South Conference foe #16 West Alabama, who will be Montevallo's 4
th nationally-ranked opponent so far this season.
