MONTEVALLO, Ala. - Montevallo men's swim team continued their dominance in a close home win against the Birmingham Southern Panthers on January 9th.
This marks the first time the Men's Falcons have defeated the Panthers in competition. The men's team took home first place honors in 6 of the 10 events, 2 of which being relays.
NOTABLES
The men started out strong with the relay of Sophomores Will Mahone, Connor Daigle, Jacob Rubin, and Freshmen Kevin Watkins taking first in the 400 yard medley relay.
They continued this dominance through the next event going 1-3-4 by Sophomores Jacob Rubin, Josh Sauer, and Parker Bell respectively.
Sophomore Will Mahone went a season best 22.97 in the 50 yard freestyle.
Freshmen Kevin Watkins shined with a season best 53.86 in the 100 yard butterfly which earned him first place honors. Watkins swim narrowly missed the school record by a couple tenths of a second.
Sophomore Josh Sauer also set a season best of 55.81 in the 100 yard butterfly and getting 5th.
Sophomore Connor Daigle set a new season best in the 50 yard Breaststroke with a 28.42 during his 100 yard Breaststroke. Bearing his time of 28.61 from Thursday.
The men's relay of Sophomores Jacob Rubin, Thom Naccarato, Parker Bell, and Will Mahone set a pool record of 3:15.51 in the 400 free relay which had previously been held by the Panthers set last year.

"We really needed someone to step-up today and Connor did just that in all of his swims. He swam aggressively, and in the end helped us win the meet in every aspect he could," said head coach Aaron Mahaney.
