Falcons sweep weekend series against UWF

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of Montevallo women's basketball team finished their weekend series against the UWF Argonauts with a 82-62 victory.

The Falcons continued the momentum of Friday nights victory on Saturday, starting the game with an early seven point lead to end the first quarter.

UM extended its lead to nine after a Jordan Jones two pointer midway through the second period.  The Montevallo effort would persist through the quarter, pushing the lead to 14 points after the defensive pressure of Marissa Snodgrass made way for a Tiara McCleod jumper.  The Falcons took a comfortable 43-28 lead into halftime.

Montevallo did not let up the effort in the third quarter kicking off the second half with an 8-3 run to advancing the lead to 18.  The Falcon's closed the period with a 63-48 lead.

The Falcon's effort throughout the game was consistent in the fourth quarter.  UM saw its biggest lead of the game after a sunken lay up from Kourtnie Smith sealed a 23 point lead.  Montevallo ended the game in dominant fashion with a 82-62 final score.

Marissa Snodgrass led the Falcons in scoring with 20 points along with four rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

For the second night in a row, senior Kiya Sain put up double digit scoring in a short amount of time.  The Jackson, Tennessee native scored 18 points in 24 minutes and picked up three steals.

Kourtnie Smith and Jennifer Andrew added ten points each to UM's final score.  Smith also led the Falcons on the boards with eight rebounds.

The Falcons will be back on the court on Friday, January 15 for a weekend series at the University of West Georgia.
