MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women's basketball team suffered a gut wrenching loss at the hands of the West Alabama Tigers, on Saturday in Trustmark Arena. The loss marks the end UM's five game winning streak.
Turnovers and missed shots in the paint plagued the Falcon's throughout the entire game. In the first period UM traded buckets with the scrappy West Alabama Tigers. Montevallo would take its biggest lead of the quarter (+6) with 3:59 left on the clock. until the Tigers shortened the distance by the end of the quarter with a score of 16-16.
The back and fourth energy from the first, persisted in the second quarter. The Falcons went basket for basket with UWA until a late surge made way for a 30-33 Tiger lead going into the halftime break.
The game continued at the same pace in the third, as both teams went traded scores for the first five minutes of the half. Montevallo would then gain some control after a
Savannah Lee layup gave way for a 8-0 run towards the end of the period. UM finished with a seven point lead, edging the Tigers 48-41 in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, West Alabama crept back up on the Falcons making a 10-2 run to cut the Montevallo lead to three. UM put in a couple of their own baskets to maintain a competitive distance in the score, until UWA went on a tear to end the game with a 65-74 win over the Falcon's.
Kiya Sain led UM in the tough loss, notching a season high 24 points with four rebounds, a team high four steals, and one assist.

Anna Katherine Eastman (8 points, 2 rebounds), Marissa Snodgrass (7 points, 4 assists, 3 steals),
Savannah Lee (7 points, 4 rebounds),
Jennifer Andrew (7 points, 2 steals, rebound), and
Kourtnie Smith (10 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, block) also added valuable contributions to the Falcon effort.
