With the fall winding down towards the postseason, UM soccer and volleyball are battling for tournament spots. Meanwhile, the Falcons men's golf team went to work against a challenging group of opponents and cross country bumped elbows with a large field in Huntsville. In addition, the UM swim team splashed down in their Purple and Gold warm-up meet, while the women's tennis team competed at Young Harris.

The men's golf team kicked off the week at the South/Southeastern Super Region Preview in Valdosta. After a slow start, the Falcons battled back to finish 5th in the field of 13 teams. That was after sitting in 10th place after the opening round.  

The men's soccer team moved up to fifth in the South Region of Division II, but saw their four-game winning streak snapped with a 3-1 loss to Spring Hill on Friday. The Falcons rebounded with a hard-earned 1-0 shutout of West Florida on Sunday to improve to 8-2-1 and 4-2 in the Gulf South Conference. UM is currently tied for second place in the standings with Lee University. 

Meanwhile, the women's team split their two matches over the weekend, blasting Spring Hill 5-0, but losing a heartbreaking 3-2 setback to West Florida. The Falcons remain at .500 overall st 5-5. More importantly, UM is now 2-4 in the GSC heading into the stretch run of the schedule. the Falcons are currently sitting in 10th place in the standings, just outside of the tournament field. Only the top eight teams in the conference will advance to the GSC tournament early in November.

The Falcon volleyball team tried to get back untracked on the home floor over the weekend, but that's a tough chore against a solid squad from Auburn-Montgomery and one-loss, 15th-ranked West Florida. On Friday, the Falcons fought valiantly against AUM, but the Warhawks came away with the 3-1 win. Then, the injury-rittled Falcons threw everything they had at West Florida, but the Argos were too much, sweeping UM 3-0. The Falcons dipped to 8-10 and 2-4 in the GSC.

On the cross country course, the men's and women's teams competed in a crowded and challenging field at the UAH Charger invitational. The men's team finished 18th out of the 33 teams, while the women's came in 20th in the 5K race.

Volleyball
The Falcons volleyball team travels to Auburn-Montgomery on Tuesday night to try and snap their 4-game losing skid in a rematch against the Warhawks. Then on Friday, the Falcons head to Memphis to take on Christian Brothers. The road trip wraps up with a third GSC match at Union University on Saturday.

Soccer
The Falcons soccer teams head north for a GSC doubleheader against UAH on Friday. Then in an odd twist of the schedule, the UM men's team will host West Alabama on Sunday, while the women's team travels to Livingston to play the Tigers. At stake, the men are fighting for an opportunity to host a first round match in the GSC tournament by staying in the top four, while the women's team is trying to stay in the hunt to make the field. 

Cross Country
The Falcons will make the short trip to Birmingham to compete in the UAB Blazer Classic on Saturday morning.
