JACKSON, Tenn. - The Montevallo volleyball team lost a heartbreaker to Union 3-2 in five sets on the road Saturday afternoon.  With the loss the Falcons slipped to 9-12 on the season, and 3-6 in the Gulf South Conference, while Union improved to 14-7 and 6-3 in the GSC.

The Falcons came ready in the first set, leading by as much as three points early in the game. Union turned the tables towards the end of the set, taking on a seven point lead over UM en route to a 25-18 win.

The Falcons regrouped in the following two sets, taking 25-18, 25-17 wins to lead the match 2-1.  Union evened things up by taking a 25-20 in the fourth set..

Game could've gone either way in set five with Union taking an early lead.  The Falcons battled but the Bulldogs held on for the 15-13 win in the deciding set to close out the match..

The Falcons were led by senior hitter Evelina Teran, who put down 21 kills to go along with 10 digs, a block, and an ace. Allie Dishman added 13 kills, while Macy Martin tallied 10 kills. Colton Thompson contributed 48 assists to the Falcon offense along with 13 digs, four kills, and two aces.  Casey Hendrixson anchored the Montevallo defense with a game high 19 digs and six assists.

As a team, the Falcons finished the match with 12 service aces.

UP NEXT: The Falcons will travel to Winter Haven, Florida to play in the Gulf South Conference-Sunshine State Crossover Tournament on Oct. 22-23. On Friday, the Falcons face Rollins College (2:30 ET). Then on Saturday, UM will take on Florida Tech (10 a.m. ET) and Saint Leo (4:45 p.m. ET).
