With the month of October ebbing away and the postseason looming, each contest is huge. The men's soccer team is fighting for the top seed, while women's soccer and volleyball squads are trying to stay alive for a spot on the dance floor. Meanwhile, the Falcons cross country teams cracked the seal on the postseason with solid performances at the Gulf South Conference championships over the weekend. The UM tennis and women's golf teams were also competing.

On the cross country course, both UM teams competed for the GSC crown in a field loaded with regionally and nationally ranked runners. Both races had over 100 competitors and 13 teams. In the men's race, senior Joe Leventry earned 1st team All-GSC honors as he finished fifth. Overall, the Falcons men's team finished fourth, while the UM women were fifth. 

On the soccer pitch, the Falcons men's team assured themselves of hosting one of the four first round games of the 2021 GSC tournament at Varsity Field. The team also moved up to No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches Association poll and 3rd in the South Region. On Friday, the Falcons battled to a scoreless draw on the road against Lee University, then whipped Shorter on Sunday 4-0 to improve to 11-2-2 and 7-2-1 in the GSC. The 16th-ranked Falcons are tied with Auburn-Montgomery for first place in the conference. That sets up a showdown for the crown when the two teams meet in the final regular season match of the season on Nov. 4 in Montgomery.

The Falcons women's soccer team split their two games over the weekend, falling to #9 Lee, but rebounding to beat Shorter. The win kept the Falcons' slim postseason hopes alive. The Falcons, now 6-7-1 and 3-6-1 in the GSC are currently tied for 10th with Alabama-Huntsville with three games to go. The Falcons need to run the table the rest of the way and get some help to slide into the GSC tournament field.

The Falcon volleyball team had a sparkling weekend at the South Region Crossover, winning all three of their matches. UM swept Rollins and Florida Tech, then knocked off Saint Leo in four sets. The wins got the Falcons back to .500 at 12-12 and provided some much needed momentum heading into a very important week on the GSC slate. At 3-6, the Falcons are in a 3-way tie with Mississippi College and Lee University for 8th place in the GSC with seven conference matches remaining. UM has matches remaining against both teams in the final three weeks of the regular season. The top eight teams in the GSC will advance to the conference tournament field.

The UM tennis teams competed in the GSC Fall Open over the weekend. Men's doubles duo Gavin Salton and Sergi Martinez were big winners in their draw. The Falcons were guaranteed to have a winning pair because Salton and Martinez defeated teammates Alexandre Laplante and Dylan Kamel, who had advanced through the doubles brackets to the finals. 

The Falcons women's golf team kicked off the week in UM sports at the Music City Classic where they would overcome a middle-of-the-pack first round to finish second.

Volleyball
The Falcons volleyball team is back home this weekend for a pair of crucial, must-win GSC matches. They will host Valdosta State on Friday for Pink Night. Then, on Saturday, dress in your spooky best as the Falcons welcome West Georgia to Trustmark Arena on Saturday afternoon. Match times are 6 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Soccer
The Falcons men's soccer team has one non-conference match this week, on the road against Catawba College on Wednesday. The match will be played on neutral turf at the University of South Carolina-Aiken. Meanwhile the women's team is at home for a pair of conference matches. On Friday, the Falcons take on Valdosta State at 5 p.m. Then on Sunday, UM faces West Georgia at 1 p.m. The Falcons need to win both matches to have any chance at the postseason.

Golf
Both golf teams are on the course this week. The men's team is playing in Carrollton, GA at the Matt Dyas Invitational, while the women's team is in St. Augustine competing at the Flagler Fall Slam. The tournaments will be held on Monday and Tuesday.

Swimming
The UM swimming teams will be in the pool on Friday, at Sewanee University.
