Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Falcons soar in 2-1 2OT victory over Valdosta

MONTEVALLO - The Montevallo women's soccer team escaped a double overtime thriller, 2-1 over Valdosta State Friday evening.  WIth the win, Falcon Footy advances to 7-7-1 for a 4-6-1 conference record and VSU drops to 9-5-1 with a 6-4-1 GSC record.

The Falcons battled the muddy conditions on Varsity Field all evening against Valdosta.  The Blazers found their way to a goal after Bailey Hern found a goal off the rebound in the 13th minute of the match.  Montevallo was aggressive offensively but struggled to find a goal until Zariah Nogales found a goal only a few moments after making her debut, after Avery Campbell found her on the throw in.

Despite several opportunities the game would be notched 1-1 for the duration of the regular minutes.  It took 12 extra minutes for Espy Sanchez to use her head to punch in a goal off of the corner kick from Avery Campbell.  The clutch goal sealed the deal for Montevallo with 8:37 left in the second overtime.

Montevallo outshot Valdosta 23-12 and both teams tied in corner kick tallies with five each.

UP NEXT:  The Falcons will face West Georgia on Sunday, October 23rd with kick off set for 1:00 pm at Varsity Field.
