MONTEVALLO - The Montevallo women's soccer team escaped a double overtime thriller, 2-1 over Valdosta State Friday evening. WIth the win, Falcon Footy advances to 7-7-1 for a 4-6-1 conference record and VSU drops to 9-5-1 with a 6-4-1 GSC record.
The Falcons battled the muddy conditions on Varsity Field all evening against Valdosta. The Blazers found their way to a goal after Bailey Hern found a goal off the rebound in the 13th minute of the match. Montevallo was aggressive offensively but struggled to find a goal until
Zariah Nogales found a goal only a few moments after making her debut, after
Avery Campbell found her on the throw in.
Despite several opportunities the game would be notched 1-1 for the duration of the regular minutes. It took 12 extra minutes for
Espy Sanchez to use her head to punch in a goal off of the corner kick from
Avery Campbell. The clutch goal sealed the deal for Montevallo with 8:37 left in the second overtime.
Montevallo outshot Valdosta 23-12 and both teams tied in corner kick tallies with five each.
