MONTEVALLO - The Falcons volleyball team left it all on the floor on Friday night, but it wasn't enough as they came up short in a 3-1 loss to Auburn-Montgomery. The Falcons fell to 8-9 and 2-3 in the Gulf South Conference with the loss, while AUM improved to 11-7 and 3-2.
Senior
Evelina Teran led UM with 14 kills and 17 digs, while
Macy Martin tallied 13 kills and
Allie Dishman added 10 kills. Libero
Casey Hendrixson led on defense with 22 digs. Meanwhile,
Colton Thompson finished the match with 34 assists and
Isabelle Fuell came off the bench to contribute 12.
The first set of the match was closely contested throughout. AUM held the largest lead at five points on three different occasions. However, the Falcons battled back to tie the set at 16 on a kill by Dishman. The Warhawks extended the lead back to four at 23-19, but the Falcons scored four consecutive points to knot the score up once again at 23-all. But, AUM scored the next two points to take the first set 25-23.
The Falcons led the second set early, but the Warhawks overcame the deficit en route to a 25-19 win, putting UM in an 0-2 hole. The Falcons came out with talons up in the third set, racing out to a double-digit lead and hold on for a 25-18 win to trim the match to 2-1.
In the deciding set,AUM led most of the for half. Trailing 14-13,
Jillian Morgan scored off an assist from Thompson to tie the set at 14-14. Later, Dishman and
Kamble Frenette teamed up on a double block to give UM a 16-15 lead. With the score tied at 19-19, the Warhawks posted three straight points to take a 22-19 lead. The Falcons couldn't overcome the rally and AUM went on to the 25-22 win to finish off the match.
The Falcons have another tough assignment on Saturday, facing #15 West Florida in another GSC match at Trustmark Arena. Game time is 2 p.m.
